Gluten Free Cooking

Don't let the thought of gluten free cooking and baking scare the socks off you. It's just as easy (or difficult) as "the old way," depending of course, on how comfortable you were with working in the kitchen before switching to a gluten free diet. If you were a regular "Betty Crocker" or "Galloping Gourmet " in the kitchen before going gf, then all you'll have to do is restock your shelves and roll up your sleeves. If, on the other hand, your pre-gf life was more comfortable with defrost and microwave cooking, well, cooking gluten free may first require a basic Cooking 101 (ala gluten free) with Grandma. (She'll love the extra bonding time, too.) In either case, once you get started, you'll really enjoy the experience as well as the delicious foods you will produce.

This section of our site will help you start by listing suggestions of basic ingredients to stock in your pantry. We will also share with you some basic recipes that members find easy and delicious. Another page will provide a list of gluten free cookbooks where you will find a greater variety of recipes and challenges. You'll be excited about moving on to these once you have become comfortable with the transition to a gluten free kitchen. Also, be aware that there are many delicious, prepared gf mixes with instructions. Oh, and be sure to educate your family on the importance of avoiding cross contamination in your gf kitchen!

Gluten free cooking (and the gluten free lifestyle) may seem difficult at first, but will become second nature before you know it. So, what are you waiting for? Go grab your apron and a glass of wine (or iced tea) and get started. You (and your appetite) will be glad you did.
